Cats on Holiday

It is Wednesday, right?
It's Half Term, I've got my week off and we've come away to my girlfriend's parents in Essex for a few days. I'm still waking up at some ridiculous hour, though. My body obviously doesn't like the idea of a holiday. That and it has no idea what day it is.

As what has become the norm on this sort of trip, the cats have come with us - another reason why I'm awake this early. Being somewhere other than home, they like exploring, especially noisy places and scratching on doors. A few times throughout the night either one of us can be heard "whisper-shouting" one of them to stop. Right now, they're both in the bedroom and we've shut the door which has it's advantages and disadvantages. They stop scratching doors and wrecking the rest of the house but we get jumped on for the rest of the night. We're now both awake shouting at cats.

They were wary as usual when we arrived here after 5 hours in their boxes in a car. During that time they were quiet probably due to fear but we stopped regularly to check on them. Opening their boxes in this house was like opening the doors to the Tardis. Both of them crept out like stepping into another world which, for two cats who spend their lives indoors, I suppose it is. Immediately, they started exploring and, having already spent some time here previously, started getting used to surroundings, people and rooms.

Keeping an eye on them when visitors arrive or when we leave and arrive is a mini challenge. I've likened it to astronauts arriving at the International Space Station. Make sure the cats are in one part of the house with the door shut before you open another door. This has become a house with several airlocks instead of doors.

Still, they're enjoying their time here and, although a pain at times, I'm enjoying having them here as is my girlfriend and her parents. We can't expect them to be exceptionally behaved. They're cats. This is what they do. We love 'em.

BYL.
