Yesterday was officially the end of the summer. The first pile of children poured into school for their first day back while the staff created their own pile of computer problems for me to sort out.
Today, the rest of the kids turn up and we begin our first full school day.
This next week will consist of new pupils receiving their username and password consequently typing it all wrong or deciding that the name we have isn't the name they use. However, the kids, existing or new, aren't the main problem.
Six weeks of holiday seems to wipe the memory of anyone involved in teaching. Of course, despite them not being able to remember their password(s), it's fine because the Network Manager (moi), actually has a computer for a brain and is able to remember hundreds of passwords and will be able to tell you.
Can you sense the sarcasm?
More annoying than forgetting a password is denying they have the password wrong, insisting they have typed it correctly and it's obviously the computer that's got it.
Come on, people, I'm not daft. Just admit it. It will make the situation a whole lot easier and help resolve things quicker. Don't worry, despite stereotypes, teachers are allowed to be wrong.
Anyway, enough of that rant. I'm expecting more of that today and over the next week or so. There's no point ranting over it now.
One phrase that support staff will never say at the beginning of a term, "Aww, I'm glad you're back. I've really missed you!"
BYL.
